About Scotland’s Gardens Charity Open Day - Merchiston Cottage

16 Colinton Road, Edinburgh EH10 5EL
Esther Mendelssohn

Romantic walled garden within a mile of the city centre providing a haven for wildlife based on a tapestry of habitats including numerous water features. It has been gardened on organic principles for nearly 30 years with productive fruit trees, apples, pears, plums, quince, medlar and black mulberry. Soft fruit including gooseberries, raspberries, blueberries and red, white and blackcurrants all benefit from the pollinating bees kept in hives in the garden which also give us the added bonus of honey. A recently completed new addition of a roof garden devoted to growing fruit and vegetables has greatly enhanced the garden and provided new planting opportunities.

Near Holy Corner, opposite Watson's College School. Take Lothian buses 11 or 16.

Charity - ALYN Hospital, Jerusalem 60%.

Other details: Talks on bee keeping will take place during the afternoon and when possible the bees can be seen at close quarters in an observation hive.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Scotland’s Gardens Charity Open Day - Merchiston Cottage are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
