Portrait Photography Workshop

About Portrait Photography Workshop

Capture personality through a lens.

This workshop is designed for photographers who have an understanding of DSLR camera settings and can shoot on the manual mode. The workshop will help you develop an in depth knowledge and practice of outdoor Portrait Photography.

Our expert photographer Julien Borghino will lead the group through the streets of Edinburgh and teach hand by hand with a professional model how to capture personality, use effective lighting, and poses.

We will start the workshops with a brief Introduction where you will learn how to use the outdoor environment as well as the backgrounds to enhance the portrait by making an efficient use of lighting, flash and colours.

Once you are all set up, it is time to take your camera and start shooting!

The Fine Print

A structured two hour photography workshop with a professional photographer and model.

What to expect?

Portrait photography is about capturing someone’s essence but what do you look for when working with your model?

- How to connect with your model and share in the process - Convey an essence of authority, so your direction of the model is confident and self-assured.
- Lighting and Environment – How to manage natural and artificial light. Create shadows, reflexions and flash effects. Lighting gear provided.
- Camera and Lens dynamics – Focal length for portraits. Learn how to use different lenses while shooting portraits and when to use them.
Reflectors. How to make use of reflectors, flash guns and filters when doing an outdoor photo shoot.

*We recommend bringing 50 mm, 35 mm, 85 mm or similar lenses and ND filter.
If you do not have any of these, don't worry! We will ensure gear is not an obstacle to obtain great results.
