About Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival: We Begin With Morton
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
Andrew Oliver/David Horniblow, Ken Mathieson’s Classic Jazz Orchestra.
We launch our 40th Anniversary Celebrations with the man who “invented” jazz, Jelly Roll Morton. Cutting his musical teeth as a pianist and entertainer in the bordellos of New Orleans, he could claim to be the first composer and arranger in jazz. He wrote the music that popularised the new genre at the time, and became the standard repertoire of every New Orleans and traditional jazz group ever since. "King Porter Stomp," "Wolverine Blues," laid the foundations for jazz.
American Jelly Roll Morton specialist, pianist, Andrew Oliver, and clarinettist, David Horniblow kick things off in duet, with the CJO highlighting the compositions and arrangements - and Ken Mathieson's intriguing new arrangements. Explore the spirit of Morton, from two different angles. Huge enjoyment and an education, too!
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival: We Begin With Morton are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
