About An Hour with John Roy Stuart
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
To mark the anniversary of the date on which Prince Charles Edward Stuart first set foot on the soil of the Scottish mainland, on Wednesday, July 25th 2018 the 1745 Association is organising an event at The Queens Arms, Frederick Street, Edinburgh, between 6 PM and 7 PM celebrating the remarkable adventures of one of the Prince’s most loyal supporters, John Roy Stuart, Colonel of the Edinburgh Regiment.
John Roy Stuart, an important figure in the Rising of 1745, is known as “the Bard of Culloden” who fully merits a place in the pantheon of the great Scots poets. However, all but one of his poems was composed in Gaelic, and today are largely forgotten and neglected. We hope to remedy that with a light-hearted romp through his life and times, under the watchful eye of the Queen of the Queens Arms, Bonnie Prince Charlie's great-great-grandmother, Mary Queen of Scots. The event will conclude with a new three-minute English translation of John Roy’s last and greatest poem, Latha Chuil-Lodair, The Day of Culloden.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for An Hour with John Roy Stuart are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
