About Book Launch: A Scottish Journey by James McEnaney

Inspired by Edwin Muir’s travels around Scotland in 1934, in spring 2018 James McEnaney sought to complete his own Scottish Journey, exploring the communities of Scotland by motorbike. Braving the snow that the Beast from the East hailed upon the country, McEnaney set off from the Scottish Parliament on an 1500-mile, two-wheeled journey that would take him around Scotland via Gatehouse of Fleet, Oban, Orkney and Aberdeen, amongst others.

Relying on the kindness of strangers to offer him shelter, he discovered the communities within our nation and their real-life hopes for the future of the country. In the words of Muir himself, ‘this is not a survey but a bundle of impressions: not the Scottish journey, but a Scottish journey.’
