About School Hols Special: A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story (1983)
Dir: Bob Clark
PG, US / Can, Comedy / Family 94mins

The purveyor of great schlocky horror and teen sex comedies, Bob Clark, forever redefined his cinematic legacy with this perennial festive favourite about one boy’s quest to get his very own BB Gun. Capturing a time and a place so authentically, and with an unerring ear for the ways in which children make sense of the adult world around them, this is a Xmas film with a bit of spikiness mixed in with the saccharine sentimentality. No other modern Xmas tale has come up with so many original comic tropes as Bob Clark does here. This is the film that makes the likes of Scrooged and Bad Santa possible.
