Are you stuck for something to do with your keen cyclist children in the February mid-term break? Why not get them involved in some MTB coaching which will be great fun for them. The best thing is that you don’t even need to take them far as transport by minibus will be provided by SLM Cycle Transport for them and their bikes from Hamilton and returned safely back!

This session is designed for younger riders and will enhance the riders’ skills and confidence. It will take place at the fantastic Glentress MTB facility near Peebles. The session is designed to be FUN and educational and is suitable for all abilities from aged 10 to 14. The session will be progressive and help the riders to ride smoother and safely. As well as riding the trails, we will be playing some cycling games too.The session will focus on core riding techniques including gears, braking, pedalling, balance and body position and is the foundation for mountain biking. We will, start by checking the condition of all bikes and equipment and assess rider capability, to ensure safe and fun riding at all times. Also covered will be the correct set up of the bike for each rider.We will build upon the riding techniques through some smooth riding on green and blue graded trails. The coaching will be undertaken by a friendly and experienced mountain bike coach who is British Cycling qualified with first-aid training and PVG clearance. The ratio of coaches to riders will be 1:6 maximum. In addition, we will have another PVG cleared adult taking part in the session who will also act as our driver for the day.The cost for each rider is £60 including transportation which offers excellent value for money.

Is this session for you?
You should have some experience of riding in an off-road environment on basic green graded trails and own a fully functional mountain bike and the necessary safety equipment. You should be keen to learn and practice new MTB skills and are looking for a great day out on the bike.

Timing
Riders will be picked up from the Hamilton Palace Grounds Retail car park (ML3 6AD) at the far end of the car park close to Homebase at 8:30am sharp. We anticipate being at Glentress for around 10:15 am. We will ride for around 3 hours and head to the Peel café for a bite to eat so don’t forget your money or a packed lunch! We expect to be back in Hamilton for around 4.30pm and we will text anyone collecting children as we leave the Glentress facility.

Summary of Terms & Conditions
All riders should have a fully working mountain bike and the wearing of a helmet is mandatory. It is also strongly advised to wear glasses, gloves, knee and elbow protection. Each rider should bring sufficient clothing to cope with the varying weather conditions at Glentress. Light refreshments should also be brought along too to eat on the trails and items can be left locked in the minibus if required since it will remain with us for the full day. Note that any valuable items or possessions should not be left in the minibus since it will be left unattended.

All riders will be required to complete a consent form, which will be emailed out once a ticket is purchased. This must be completed ahead of any rider taking part in the sessions.

In the event of bad weather or unsatisfactory road and/ or riding conditions, we may change the venue from Glentress to one which is more suitable or more appropriate given the conditions.

If the event is unavoidably cancelled, then a full refund or an alternative future date will be offered.

The return time is approximate, is dependent upon a number of factors and cannot be guaranteed. We will update the riders and anyone collecting them if there is any significant alteration to the expected return time.

All riders are expected to behave in safe and responsible manner throughout the day and to comply with instructions given by the coach or the driver in relation to the health and safety of all participants. Failure to do so may result in the event being curtailed or stopped.

The minibus is fully insured to carry passengers under a Hire & Reward Insurance Policy with a leading UK insurer. We also carry Public Liability Insurance with a leading UK insurer. Although we will treat your bike with all reasonable care, we are not liable for damage to bikes either during transport or during the coaching session. It is expected that any bikes will be covered by the rider’s own insurance where appropriate. Similarly, personal possessions such as clothes, phones & money are the responsibility of the riders. We are not liable for damage or loss to any personal possessions belonging to the riders. It is expected that any personal possessions will be covered by the rider’s own insurance where appropriate.

Mountain biking can be a dangerous sport and as such carries some risk which could result in personal injury. Keep Rolling Cycling Services takes the safety of its clients very seriously and will always endeavour to teach in safe areas and on terrain which is suitable for the rider’s skill level. The customer accepts that risk of serious injury is a part of mountain biking and has the option to withdraw from the activity at any point should they feel uncertain about proceeding. Participants therefore ride at their own risk.

Coaching sessions are non-refundable but can be transferred if Keep Rolling Cycling Services is notified more than 14 days prior to the booked date. Within the 7-day period preceding the session, bookings are non-transferable. Special exceptions are always considered however and Keep Rolling Cycling Services will always endeavour to be fair to customers.

In exceptional circumstances such as there not being a viable number of participants, courses may be cancelled by Keep Rolling Cycling Services. Should this occur, transfer to another course date or a full refund will be offered by Keep Rolling Cycling Services
