Happy Birthday Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!

About Happy Birthday Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!

Arthur Conan Doyle is well-known as the famous creator of Sherlock Holmes, but did you also know that he was a Pioneer of Spiritualism, who devoted the later years of his life to promoting Spiritualism throughout the world?

The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, a Spiritual Centre for the benefit of the mind, body, and spirit, fittingly bears his name and commemorates him in Edinburgh, his home town. To celebrate this upcoming birthday we hope you will join us for a unique concert, filled with special moments perfectly curated for the benefit of honoring Arthur Conan Doyle.

We welcome Viktor Seifert, 12-year-old award-winning composer, violinist, and pianist, to play a specially composed piece on the Sherlock Violin. The instrument was made in 2009 as a tribute to Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation, Sherlock Holmes, who often played the violin whilst solving cases.

It was first played at the Usher Hall and now precisely 10 years on from this date we have the privilege at the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre to mark this memorable celebration and welcome Viktor for this musical launch.

Viktor will be joined by fellow students of St Mary’s Music School, which quite fittingly was once within these same walls. You can expect an array of musical talents during the concert, which will involve many instruments, including the Sherlock violin and the Conan Doyle Quartet.

During the afternoon Steve Burnett will give a short talk on his idea behind the creation of the violins and we will also be giving a tour of our magnificent building. You can see a short breakdown of the day’s activities below;

From 12noon – Concert to launch a specially composed piece by Viktor Seifert on the Sherlock Violin as well as a selection of other instruments

The concert will be split with a variation of composed pieces and a talk by Steve Burnett

1.30pm – Short reception with information boards, the unveiling of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Birth Certificate and a display of The Sherlock Holmes Tartan

1.45pm – Tour of the building, led by our Tour Guide Eleanor Docherty. Spaces for the tour are limited to 20. Tickets will be allocated upon arrival on a first come, first served basis.

2.30pm – Optional afternoon teas in our Sherlock Holmes Tearoom (must be booked in advance through our website).
