Clay Press Print Workshop

About Clay Press Print Workshop

After a successful run of creative workshops at Granton Castle Walled Garden and Granton:hub where we took inspiration from botanicals, we are making plans for a piece of artwork that can be perminantly installed in the garden.

Come along to this workshop where you'll make botanical relief prints into clay, which will then be fired and glazed before being put on display at Granton Walled Garden. You will also have chance to create a clay press piece to take home, which can be hung up as a piece of artwork or used as a paperweight.

This is one of a series of drop-in workshops that will run at the garden over the summer, where we will invite people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to this growing artwork. The final piece will then be installed and unveilled as part of Doors Open Day at the end of September - and you'll be invited to see your work on display.

By capturing details of the flora and fauna that grows at the garden, we hope that this artwork will help visitors with plant identification and act as a growing archive of the different species that call this special place home. It will also act as a reminder, in the winter months, of what is to come as the seasons change, seeds sprout and the leaves unfurl.

This workshop is for people of all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult. You are welcome to make as little or as many clay press pieces to contribute to the artwork as you like. This is also a good opportunity to visit the garden and see everything in full bloom.

The workshop will be held in our big marque in the garden so there will be plenty of shelter (no need to let the rain put you off). Water and juice will be provided but please feel free to bring your own snacks or flask of tea/coffee.

Please note: there is no toilet in the garden so please go before hand as the nearest loo is in Morrissons, a 5/10 minute walk. The ground in the garden is uneven and may not be suitable for wheelchairs or powerchair users - if you have access requirements please get in touch so we can prepare for your visit.

If you have any further questions, or are part of a community group that would like to contribute to this project, please get in touch with me at cassbarron.cb@gmail.co.uk

This workshop is being run by Cassandra Barron, in collaboration with the Friends of Granton Castle Walled Garden, thanks to funding from Edinburgh City Council.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL - This is a free workshop but please book your place so we know to expect you - donations for materials and juice are welcome on the day if you are able to contribute.
