The bumper event, which took place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 April, attracted crowds from Renfrewshire and beyond to Abbey Close for one of the most popular events in the town’s calendar.
For the first time ever a number of activities took place on the Friday evening with popular gin bar Gin 71 hosting two expert tasting sessions which proved highly popular.
Foodie fans were able to sample some tantalising tastes from the vendors of the award-winning Pitt Street Food Market including Haggisman, Haloumi Hut, Tuk and Bao. Other street food stalls included Babu Kitchen, Japan Street Food, Mighty Mexican, Linton and Co Coffee, Scozzese Pizza and Sharma Street Food offering plenty of flavours to tempt the crowds.
Local resident, Greig Millar, said: “The whole family looks forward to coming along to the festival every year. There’s loads on for kids and adults and there’s plenty of great food and drink on offer - it looks even bigger this year. It’s just a great family day out.”
Gillian Reith from Three Sisters Bake said: “This is the third time we’ve been part of the festival. We love Paisley Food and Drink Festival – it’s one of the most local events that we do so we meet a lot of people who know us and are excited to see us here. It’s always a really busy event with a great turnout and lovely atmosphere.”
Jenna from local sushi bar, Japan Street Food, said: “It’s our first year here at the festival and it’s been a really amazing opportunity to showcase our food to visitors. We’ve had a lot of people coming up to find out more about what we have on offer, both our loyal customers and new ones as well.
“We’re making everything fresh which I think people really enjoy. We’re definitely looking forward to hopefully coming back again next year.”
A popular aspect of the event each year is the cooking demonstrations with the celebrity chef. This year was no different with visitors keen to get some top tips and tricks of the trade from former MasterChef the Professionals winner, Jamie Scott.
Jamie Scott said: “It’s a great thing to be able to promote food, tourism and culture in the area. Paisley Food and Drink Festival is an up and coming event and I was really keen to be part of it. It’s been a great day and a great turn out.”
Other highlights of the weekend included the children’s calzone and cupcake workshops, the Sweet Science foodie experiment sessions, large lawn games, the craft and farmer’s markets and live entertainment.
The event ran alongside the Paisley Beer Festival – Scotland’s largest Real Ale Festival – run by the Renfrewshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale which attracts people from all over Scotland and beyond each year.
