Radio Forth calls on listeners to celebrate community champions at the Forth Awards 2019
- 16th annual Forth Awards recognises local heroes across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife-
Radio Forth is asking listeners to nominate community heroes and top performers for this year’s Forth Awards to recognise those who make a difference in daily life or on a global stage.
Now in its 16th successive year, the Forth Awards with Edinburgh St James are unique in bringing local people and celebrities together to recognise the contribution that both groups make to life in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.
From teachers, volunteers and charities to famous names and emerging talent, the awards seek out the individuals and organisations that go the extra mile in the work that they do.
Last year’s Rising Star winner Lewis Capaldi proved that Radio Forth listeners have an ear for the real deal when he went on to hit the Number One spot with ‘Someone You Loved’ just days after he picked up the prestigious award.
This year’s winners will be revealed on Thursday, 14 November during a glittering awards ceremony in the magnificent surroundings of Edinburgh’s Usher Hall. The event is one of the biggest in the capital and a star-studded line-up will be performing on the day. As always, this won’t be revealed in advance, however, previous stars have included Paolo Nutini, George Ezra, The Stereophonics and of course Lewis Capaldi, so the 1,800 guests are guaranteed some fantastic acts.
This year there are 10 awards, including the Local Hero Award; sponsored by the Edinburgh Evening News, the Icon Award with The Edinburgh Playhouse and the Cash for Kids Award with Westwood’s Health Club.
Each category is individually sponsored and listeners nominate those that they feel are worthy of the awards.
Rebus author Ian Rankin was given the Forth Icon Award with the Forth Fringe Award going to comedian, Ed Byrne.
Richie Jeffrey, Events & Marketing Manager, Radio Forth said: “We are very proud of the Radio Forth Awards which have recognised the achievements of some truly remarkable people over the past 15 years. They bring together big names and unsung heroes and show that everyone has something to contribute to our community when they put their heart and soul into what they do.”
