Kadampa Meditation Centre Edinburgh has a purpose-built meditation hall to provide a haven of peace in the midst of the city. We offer a wide range of classes and courses in modern Buddhism. Based on the books of the modern day Buddhist teacher, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we present Buddha’s teachings in an accessible manner that can easily be integrated into our modern lives. All classes are self-contained and open to everyone. No previous experience is required.
The Center, which is run by a small staff and volunteers who themselves are dedicated practitioners, offers a warm and welcoming community. During opening hours there is always someone at hand who can answer your questions. Please feel free to drop in for a visit.
Kadampa Meditation Center Edinburgh is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT). The NKT is an International Union of Kadampa Buddhist Centers. There are currently over 1400 Centers worldwide.
Class format:
Breathing meditation
Classes start with a 15-minute breathing meditation, which is guided by the teacher – designed to settle the mind and let go of distractions, in order to get the most out of the session.
Talk on the topic
The middle of the class consists of practical teachings on how to begin and make progress in meditation. Each week is self-contained but the topics covered will vary each week exploring a variety of meditations that can be reproduced at home.
Concluding meditation
The final meditation will last around 10-15 minutes and vary depending on the focus for the week. This will help us to improve our practical experience of meditation and enable us to carry the insights we gain into our daily life.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end.
