On Friday 28th June, Lauder Lodge, on Wakefield Avenue, will be open from 1.30pm-4.30pm, and Murrayside, on South Beechwood, will be open from 2pm-4pm. Cairdean House, on Redford Road, will be open on Saturday 29th June, from 12noon-4pm. The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
Homes have organised art-themed parties to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun. Visitors can look forward to honing their artistic skills during arts and crafts sessions at Lauder Lodge, alongside a visit from Kidzcare Nursery Portobello.
At Murrayside, guests will have the opportunity to create their own jewellery during a special workshop, and take part in a ‘Football and Edinburgh’ memories session in the home’s café. At Cairdean House, guests can try their luck at a tombola, a raffle, and have fun playing an array of games, including ‘hook-a-duck’.
There will also be live entertainment across all three homes from Scott Neil at Cairdean House, Gordon’s magic and puppet show at Lauder Lodge, and singer and entertainer, Sarah Laing at Murrayside. In addition, guests will have an opportunity to cool down and enjoy a freshly made ice cream at Cairdean House.
Michelle Reid, home manager at Murrayside, said: “Care Home Open Day is such a wonderful opportunity for our home to connect with the local community and show what it’s really like to live in a care home. We’re really looking forward to showing Murrayside off to the local community.”
Nicole Anderson, home manager at Lauder Lodge, added: “The residents are really excited to showcase their artistic skills, and we’re all particularly looking forward to Gordon’s magic and puppet show. I know the residents and community are going to have a great time!”
As part of a nationwide competition across Care UK homes, Murrayside, Lauder Lodge and Cairdean House will be developing a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which will be showcased at the events.
Murrayside, Lauder Lodge and Cairdean House care homes have been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The homes incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and offer the highest standards of care, including residential, nursing and dementia care.
