Soo’s collection is the first photography exhibition to take place at the Gleneagles Townhouse on St Andrew Square and will be available to members, hotel residents and visitors to The Spence – the Townhouse’s all-day dining restaurant – throughout August.

Soo’s works have been largely inspired by the Victorian swimming pools dotted around the city of Edinburgh. What began as a one-off shoot at her childhood pool – Glenogle in Stockbridge – has expanded into an ongoing collection of celebrated works.

Beyond their architectural qualities, Soo was reintroduced to the beauty and serenity found in these spaces, as well as the history and sense of place at the heart of local communities. She has since photographed city pools like Drumsheugh Baths, Portobello, Warender, Leith Victoria and Dalry, and has expanded beyond Edinburgh to include Western Baths Club in Glasgow, Manchester’s Victoria Baths, and Paris’ Piscine Molitor.

Soo’s photography highlights the dreamy colour palettes, dramatic proportions and striking symmetry of the spaces that are so often overlooked, the simple beauty and tranquillity of them going unnoticed by those who use them every day. She minimises modern elements in her photography to celebrate the original architecture, capturing everything from the pattern of the tiles, lines on the bottom of the pool and poolside lettering as much as the scale, light and atmosphere of these historic buildings.

Reminiscent of stills from a film, Soo’s impeccably styled shoots aim to evoke a timelessness and stripped-back insight into how these buildings appear in the natural form: when they are quiet and the water is still.

Gleneagles Townhouse said: “It is a privilege to be sharing Soo’s much-admired works from within our new Edinburgh home – she is exactly who we had envisioned to help us celebrate the diverse arts and cultural scene which we are so lucky to have in this city.

We think her beautiful collection will be extremely popular with members and guests and look forward to seeing it all come to life throughout the month of August.”
