Edinburgh Playhouse Appoints New Theatre Director
The Edinburgh Playhouse is thrilled to report that Gordon Millar has been appointed as their new theatre director.

In May of this year, previous Theatre Director Colin Marr left the company to head up the Inverness Chamber of Commerce. Since then, the Edinburgh Playhouse has had the pleasure of having Marie Nixon (Theatre Director at Sunderland Empire) as their Acting Theatre Director.
Gordon joins the Edinburgh Playhouse from the Unity Theatre in Liverpool where he was Chief Executive and Artistic Director for the past 5 years. This appointment marks a full-circle moment in Gordon’s career with him starting out in the ATG central programming team back in 2002. Following this, Gordon has had a wealth of experience in the world of theatre working in programming and producing at both the Barbican, and the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, in general management for touring company Frantic Assembly, and in venue management at the Lyceum Theatre, Crewe, for what was the HQ Theatres and Hospitality.
On being appointed as Theatre Director of the Edinburgh Playhouse, Gordon says, "This is an exciting time to be joining Edinburgh’s celebrated and iconic Playhouse, a venue that is impressed upon the hearts of audiences in the Capital and beyond. It’s not hard to explain why, given the impressive size of the auditorium and the world-leading production it regularly stages. Being from a Scottish family it will be an honour to work in Edinburgh, alongside an exceptional team, and to bring you ever more moments of wonder at the Edinburgh Playhouse".
Julia Potts, Business Director (UK Venues) at ATG says, “I am delighted that we have, after a long and thorough search, appointed a new Theatre Director for the Edinburgh Playhouse. Gordon has a wealth of theatre leadership experience, and strong connections to Scotland, and we are very pleased to be welcoming him back to ATG, this time leading the UK’s largest all-seated theatre.”
Gordon will start in post on Monday 8th January, at the beginning of a spectacular 2024 programme including the likes of Shrek The Musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Wizard of Oz and Pretty Woman The Musical.
