Glass Cheques: Scots brewery launches 20p deposit scheme on nostalgic ‘Iron Brew’ beers
Vault City introduced the Iron Brew series earlier this month, their sixth and largest homage to the Scottish fizzy brew yet.
Over the last four years, Edinburgh-based brewer Vault City has attempted to expel January blues with their take on Scotland’s other national drink.
This year, two of the beers come in limited edition iconic glass bottles – and you can get 20p back if you return them to The Wee Vault, Vault City’s tap room.
This time around saw a total of four Iron Brew sours introduced online and in pubs across the country.
The release saw the return of classic glass soda bottles, with the imperial Iron Brew Export Strength (£6.50) arriving with a stonking 8.4% and Iron Blue (£5.50), a 6.3% bubble-gum brew, which comes in a glass bottle, with the bright blue liquid set to turn drinkers’ tongues blue.
A limited edition can design of the ever popular 4.8% ABV Iron Brew (£3.50) sour and a 5% Raspberry Ripple twist (£4.50) in a 440ml can also feature in the release.
Both the Imperial Iron Brew Export Strength and Iron Blue can be returned at any time before the end of January, and you’ll receive 20p for your troubles as part of Vault City’s return deposit scheme.
Vault City co-founder Steven Smith-Hay says that he couldn’t resist adding the 20p scheme for another touch of nostalgia.
Steven said: “Our Iron Brew release felt extra special this year with the introduction of our new limited edition export strength sour, packaged in iconic glass bottles paying homage to Scotland’s national soft drink.
“We often lean into nostalgic ideas when it comes to our beers, so we loved the idea of bringing back an old tradition of 20p returns for Iron Brew glass bottles, or ‘glass cheques’ as we used to call them!”
Vault City’s Iron Brew release has proved hugely successful in dispelling ‘January Blues’, with the special edition gift boxes selling out within 48 hours.
