Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town, The Mussel and Steak Bar at the bottom of Victoria Street has become a must visit restaurant for visitors to the city and locals since opening in 2005.
Owner Marshall Milne was inspired by the quality of Scottish produce when he opened the restaurant and works closely with a network of Scottish farmers and fisherman locally and across Scotland to deliver excellent value, incredible quality and a warm welcome for all.
To celebrate its 20th birthday, The Mussel & Steak Bar will be offering a 20% discount from Monday 5th May - Thursday 8th May. Marshall and his team are then rolling back the clock on their menu for the weekend, returning to the 2005 dishes and drinks menu, with highlights including:
Rib-eye steak - £13.50
Kilo mussel pots - £10.50
Fish and chips £12.50
Mixed shellfish platter £13.95
Cullen skink soup, £3.80
Bailey’s cheesecake, £3.80
Over the years it has gained international fame for its menu that features the freshest seafood from across Scotland, including Isle of Uist lobster, langoustines and crabs, hand dived Orkney scallops in half shell, kilo pots of sustainable rope grown mussels with a choice of sauces. It is the biggest seller of oysters and mussels in Scotland, serving over two tonnes of mussels per month and 40,000 oysters per year. The meat is sourced from farmers across the lowlands, with 35 day dry aged steaks like their 40 oz Tomahawk, pork and wild venison, which comes from the Highlands.
The drinks menu has their own The Mussel and Steak Bar specially selected merlot and sauvignon blanc wine which is paired perfectly with the menu, cocktails and serves like The Mussel and Steak Old Fashioned, G&Tea and a Coriander and Lime Gimlet or a warming dram of whisky.
A prime city centre location over two floors, the restaurant interiors invoke the sea with a pebble beach mosaic and turquoise accents throughout. An outdoor terrace that shines under a full day’s sun, just steps away from Edinburgh Castle and the Grassmarket for alfresco dining.
Marshall Milne says,
“This birthday is a testament to the quality of Scottish producers and the warmth of my talented front of house and chef teams throughout the years. I’m so delighted to have customers who keep in touch from around the world and staff who have been with us for many years. I’m so grateful for the support my team and I have enjoyed from Scots and visitors alike. Here’s to 20 more years of The Mussel and Steak Bar!”
