Nicholson’s Pubs has announced the addition of Edinburgh to the bill of its renowned Ale Trails across the UK, taking ale lovers on a journey through the Scottish capital to seven of its most popular and historic taverns.
Rich in heritage and local traditions, the Edinburgh Ale Trail centres around the heart of the old city and explores the past of some of its most revered pubs. Available to download as a free app, users can create an account giving them access to offers, map tracking as well as information about each of the pubs. Once completed, users will then be rewarded with a 25% off discount voucher saving money off their total bill when a main meal is ordered.
Nicholson’s pubs are famously chosen for their colourful history and deep links within the community. Just over three miles in length, ale fans can start anywhere on the trial. If starting at Deacon Brodie’s Tavern, for example, you would be at the foot of Castle Hill in a pub named after the respected cabinet maker who led a dark double life of gambling and theft. Here, the trail continues through two haunted pubs, past Edinburgh's agricultural and industrial landmarks, and close to the birthplace of a certain Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Jacqueline Henderson, Pub Manager at Deacon Brodie’s Tavern said: “Edinburgh is blessed with a fascinating history and intriguing characters. Take The Deacon for example, named after one of Scotland’s most notorious burglars, the pubs sits on Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile – just around the corner is “Brodie’s Close”, containing his family residence and workshop - making it the ideal place to discover more about Edinburgh and enjoy a great-tasting ale.
“Whether you’re here for the Edinburgh International Festival, to take in the beauty of the city, or the delights of our cask ales, we’re lucky to have seven charming pubs in Edinburgh each with its own story to tell. Thanks to the app, anyone living or visiting the city can follow the Ale Trail, find out more about Edinburgh’s Nicholson’s pubs and benefit from some exclusive offers too. They can also rate and comment on their favourite ales along the way.”
The full list of pubs on the Edinburgh Ale Trail include:
Deacon Brodie's Tavern
Greyfriars Bobby's Bar
Last Drop
The Haymarket
The Kenilworth
The Conan Doyle
The Mitre Bar
The Edinburgh Ale Trail is one of ten set up by Nicholson’s across the UK taking people on a great journey of discovery through some of its most historic pubs.
