Long before the dinosaurs, Edinburgh was part of a ‘ring of fire’ like the one that now circles the Pacific Ocean, with volcanoes emerging from a shallow tropical sea. Take a walk around Holyrood Park and explore the evidence for these ancient volcanoes and how the geology still shapes the city and landscape we see today. This self-guided walking tour was created by the University of Edinburgh.
