The real-life events that inspired the series
A wall in the north cuts the world in two. Sea wolves raid the coasts in their galleys. A young noble and his kin are betrayed and slaughtered within a mighty castle. Yet this isn’t Westeros – it’s Scottish history.
It's no secret that Scotland inspired elements in George R R Martin's world, and it works both ways. Through Game of Thrones, we can learn about the forces that shaped Scottish history.
