About Colour & Cloth: William Morris in Colour
In the 19th century, the invention of aniline dyes fuelled a host of colourful trends in fashion. Yet while William Morris admired “the indefatigable genius of scientific chemists”, he railed against the new synthetic dyes choosing to make his own natural indigo, red madder and yellow weld palette. Discover the debate that informed interiors and artistic taste for future generations with Caroline Young, author of The Colour of Fashion: The Story of Clothes in Ten Colours.
