--Picnic--
Time: 14:00-16:30
A chance to meet up and chat with other Japanese learners and speakers based in and around Edinburgh.
As this is a pot luck picnic, please aim to bring snacks, drinks and blankets along with you!
--Ippo Ippo Language Exchange--
Organiser: Elly Darrah (Ippo Ippo Japanese)
Time: 14:00-16:30
All levels welcome
The Ippo Ippo Language Exchange first started online in April 2021, making this its very first in-person appearance!
If you’re eager to try out your speaking skills and perhaps meet a new language partner, come along and try out this language exchange with local Japanese teacher Elly Darrah. There will be a mixture of conversation prompts, games and other activities to help get over any nerves and create a supportive, relaxed environment.
While the main languages we focus on are Japanese and English, Japanese learners do not have to be fluent speakers of English to take part. Similarly, Japanese speakers learning languages other than English are very much welcome.
--Tadoku Reading Corner--
Organiser: Hitomi Kobayashi (Wee Joys)
Time: 14:00-16:30
Tadoku, sometimes called “extensive reading”, is a learning method designed for one key purpose: fun! Find out more about why you should try tadoku: https://ippoippojapanese.co.uk/blog-what-makes-tadoku-different/
Join Japanese teacher and local artist Hitomi Kobayashi for a relaxed intro to learning Japanese through tadoku. You don’t need to bring anything – Hitomi will provide reading materials suitable for all levels. Find out more about Hitomi and her favourite book here: https://ippoippojapanese.co.uk/interview-with-hitomi-kobayashi/
If you're an introvert keen to learn Japanese in a chilled out environment, we can't recommend this Tadoku Corner enough! Come along to find out more.
--Nihongo Yoga--
Organiser: Kotomi Gita (Anam Cara Yoga)
Nihongo Yoga – aka, yoga in Japanese!
Join Kotomi Gita to try out some intro level yoga accompanied by simple instructions in Japanese. As Kotomi is both a qualified yoga instructor and Japanese teacher, you can expect to learn both yoga and Japanese at the same time.
-Session Times-
15:00 - beginner level (No Japanese needed! Instruction mainly in English.)
16:00 - challenge level (Instruction in a mixture of Japanese and English.)
Please note: the levels above refer to Japanese level. All of the yoga will be suitable for beginners.
Sessions last approx. 45mins each. You are welcome to join from partway through.
-What Do I Need?-
If possible, please bring a yoga mat, as we are unable to provide spares. If you don't have a mat, bring a towel or blanket instead.
We also recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you can stretch in.
-Who Can Take Part?-
All are welcome! There is no age limit - children can join in too as long as they are supervised by an adult.
-Can I Just Listen?-
Absolutely. If you would rather not do the yoga itself, you are welcome to just listen.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
