Glynnis has returned to the gallery for her third exhibition 'Defining Strata' with the series of mixed media paintings. Every year she takes a holiday in Scotland (often in the Loch Torridon area) and focuses on observing patterns, shapes and colour in nature. Glynnis doesn't want to control the process in the early stages - she wants to work with what happens on the canvas. Colour, light, texture, shape and form continually inform the creative process.
Natural patterns of rust on canvas are often a starting point for a new painting. Glynnis wraps the objects in muslin, calico, cotton or canvas with plenty of water and white vinegar sprayed on. They are then left for a long time – sometimes up to two years - to discover what kind of imprints will form. Desiccated fruit, developing mould patterns on food, rotting leaves and rusty metal pieces are all ‘treasures’ for Glynnis.
At this event we will have a chat about her process and inspiration and she will bring various 'treasures' - objects that inspire her.
