The programme commences with Victoria's glorious O Magnum Mysterium and is followed by rousing works collected by Mateo Flecha the Elder, such as the lively Riu Riu Chiu. We sing Romance del Marques de Mantua, part of a collection of songs referenced in Cervantes' Don Quixote, and in celebration of the long-standing connections between Spain and Scotland, we pay homage to Scotland's own bard Robert Burns in MacMillan's The Gallant Weaver. The legacy of Spain's Golden Age is reflected in the programme's more contemporary pieces which include Ginastera's raging and dramatic Lamentations of Jeremiah and Rosita de un verde palmar, a popular Cuban habanera. Guest percussionist Fiona McNeill joins the choir throughout, bringing the evening to a triumphant close with Jansson's To the Mothers in Brazil: Salva Regina.
