Set in the beautiful surroundings of St. Vincent’s Chapel, Edinburgh.
Angus Ramsay studied under the celebrated violinist Max Rostal at the Music Conservatoire in Bern, Switzerland. Throughout the last 35 years, he has performed both as a soloist and as part of many of the most respected and well-known orchestras and chamber music groups in the UK and Europe. He is Artistic Director of The Music Parlour and The Cantilena Festival, teaches extensively throughout Scotland and has also spent his career as a principal player in the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.
The programme will include violin transcriptions of many of opera’s most well known and recognisable works, featuring the music of La bohème, The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro alongside the music of Gounod, Purcell, Massenet, Monteverdi, Saint-Saens, Bellini, Gluck, Mascagni and Tchaikovsky.
A musical host will guide you through the programme, giving some background to the music performed and putting the pieces into their operatic context. Interval refreshments will be served.
