Limits to Growth: Economics & technology as if people & planet mattered - Edinburgh 3rd May & on line (3pm – 6pm)
“Anyone who thinks consumption can expand forever on a finite planet is either insane or an economist” - Fritz Schumacher
In the last few years there has been a growing consensus that economic growth for its own sake is harming our well-being and our planet. Also there are serious questions about whether our technology choices will deliver us from environmental disaster or destroy our planetary home. There are loud calls for Degrowth, Green Growth, Sufficiency and One-planet living. Fritz Schumacher discussed these serious issues in Small is Beautiful - Economics as if people mattered published 50 years ago this year. This event will celebrate the work of Schumacher and debate how we can achieve a well-being economy.
