About Bo-rscht Voyage - Ukrainian Family Fun Day

All aboard the Borscht cruise! On the 1st of July, we invite you to join a Ukrainian family fun day!

Location: Polwarth Parish Church 36-38 Polwarth Terrace Edinburgh EH11 1LU

Ahoy there! All aboard the Borscht cruise!

Come along for a cruise on the Union Canal to take in picturesque views, meet some new friends and, last but naut(ical) least, taste traditional Ukrainian Borscht (beetroot soup) the way our grandmas used to make it, and we will be serving vegan Borscht to accommodate all our guests.

Everyone is welcome and all the proceeds will go to aid those affected by the flood in Kherson. Please note that for this event we kindly request payments to be made in cash. So, don’t forget to bring your coins and notes to ensure smooth transactions and seamless enjoyment throughout the day!

Go on a canal cruise - and dive and immerse yourself into Ukrainian culture!
Experience and learn about Ukrainian culture and traditions while viewing the picturesque sites of Edinburgh on a majestic canal cruise. There are secret treasures to be won.

Learn to make Ukrainian food at our Varenyky Workshop:
We’ve got fillings for you, so let’s make varenyky!
In this class, you’ll learn how to make these tasty little pockets of flavour, learn about their history, about serving suggestions and be shown a selection of decorative folds.

You’ll have a professional chef that will help you finesse the art of dumpling-making to create your own delicious handmade creations. After all the hard work of wrapping these little delights up in a light-hearted environment, you get to eat ALL the dumplings! Well, the ones you made, anyway.

Handcraft camouflage nets with Edinburgh Spiders:
Today, Ukrainians learned a new craft - camouflage net weaving! Different techniques and materials are used to handcraft these incredibly detailed and vital nets. You will have a chance to learn how to handmake such enormous nets - and how they work!

Try our homemade Ukrainian traditional food - it is delicious:
From borsht to varenyky - we got you covered! We will have a range of tasty traditional Ukrainian food available for you to experience!
All of the food has been made by our lovely volunteers - who generously donated their time and energy to make this possible - many of whom are astounding cooks - don't let Gordon Ramsey know!

Artistic Clothes Stamping Workshop:
Get creative stamping your personalised t-shirts, hoodies, shopping bags, kitchen towels… the sky is the limit.
Learn about the technique used by the Ukrainian people since the 18th century and create your own custom clothing article using our stencils and designs. All stamping and stencilling supplies will be provided. Once cured, these designs can withstand a normal washing cycle. So get creative!

**Please remember to bring one of your own articles of clothing to stamp or stencil. But worry not – we can provide cotton shopping bags if you forget**

Dive into the labyrinth of mindfulness to destress:
Take a meditative trip to the centre of the labyrinth and back. This guided trip will allow you to slow down, relax your mind, let go of your worries and bring out your inner peace.

Have a pleasant journey!

Purchase unique Ukrainian souvenirs at the market stalls:
There will have a range of Ukrainian crafted gifts and other goodies for you to browse through at the Ukrainian bazar!

Face painting and games for children and adults alike!

Entertainment for children as we have a special play area with a unique programme designed for kids.

Live music!

We have talented musicians who will be performing live!

And much, much more! So all aboard and full sails ahead!

Everyone is welcome - all the profits from this event will help those affected by the war in the Kherson region, Ukraine.
