Hosted by Kaye Adams and fellow sexagenarian Karen MacKenzie, ‘How To Be 60’ began as a way to tackle Kaye’s dread of hitting the big 6 0 but instead of tears, the podcast brings plenty of laughs as the filter-free duo take on the new decade together. Chatting with guests about everything from mental health to the menopause, defying limits, love, life and loss, the show sees Karen and Kaye seek advice from a host of famous faces.
With a heavyweight line-up from across the UK’s comedy, acting and writing spheres, How To Be 60 Live at Gilded Balloon is set to be an unmissable evening as Kaye and Karen chat to Sally Philips, Fiona Allen, Jack Docherty, Jo Caulfield, Ian Rankin and Denise Mina about making the most of life beyond 60.
Wednesday 9th August - Sally Phillips and Fiona Allen
Thursday 10th August - Jack Docherty and Jo Caulfield
Friday 11th August - Ian Rankin and Denise Mina
On Thursday 10th August, How To Be 60 fans can enjoy an hour of laughter and life advice from none other than Jack Docherty and Jo Caulfield as the two actors and comedians join Kaye and Karen for a chat in Gilded Balloon’s iconic Teviot venue. BAFTA Award winning star of Scot Squad and Absolutely, Edinburgh-born actor and comedian Jack Docherty will regale the audience with tales from his 40-year career - from interviewing none other than David Bowie, performing his own Fringe shows and delighting audiences with fan-favourite character Chief Commissioner Miekelson on BBC comedy Scot Squad. One of the UK’s top comedians Jo Caulfield will join Jack, Kaye and Karen, having appeared at Edinburgh Festival Fringe countless times before. The British actress, writer and comedian recently wrote her first book, a movingly beautiful and down to earth memoir about her late sister. Expect laughter, tears and solid life advice from Jo and Jack at How To Be 60 Live!
Rounding off an incredible line-up, celebrated Scottish authors Ian Rankin and Denise Mina will join Kaye and Karen for the final How To Be 60 Live show. One of the UK’s most prolific and critically acclaimed crime writers, Ian Rankin is best known for his Rebus crime series, based in Edinburgh, with 24 best-selling novels about the character under his belt and a new TV series underway. Ian joins the line-up alongside Denise Mina, Scottish crime writer and playwright, famed for her classic Garnethill trilogy. The East Kilbride author is also set to executive produce a multi-season TV series alongside David Kane, lead writer on hit TV show Shetland, based on her Morrow book series. Fans can expect a deep dive on Ian and Denise’s outstanding careers as well as life advice on making the most of 60!
Join Kaye and Karen and their great guests for humorous and insightful chat about Life Beyond The Big 6-0 - it’s a lot better than you think!
