With a thrilling orchestral suite adapted and arranged for orchestra by its film composer Bernard Herrman.
Chopin's funeral march has remained one of Chopin's most popular compositions and has become an archetypal evocation of death and was played at the graveside during Chopin's own burial on 30 October 1849 at Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
In Rachmaninoff's symphonic poem, the Isle of the Dead, Rachmaninoff uses a recurring motif to depict the rowing of the oarsman and the movement of the water as he quotes the Dies Irae plainchant, creating a holistic reflection on how life and death are intertwined through music.
PROGRAMME:
Funeral March, Op. 35 - Chopin
Psycho Suite - Incidental Film Music from Alfredo Hitchcock's Psycho (1959) - Bernard Herrman
(INTERVAL)
Isle of the Dead, Op.29 - Rachmaninoff
