Landscapes are always and continuously changing but as a consequence of Climate Change and of the measures we take to address it, changes are happening much faster and are much more noticeable than ever experienced before. The scale of the measures we take has to meet the challenge we face and this affects people and communities and our local environment.
To kick off the event Sam Oxley director of Landscape Planning of LUC will set the scene for renewable energy developments in Scotland. She will be followed by three eminent visiting experts: Adriaan Geuze (recipient of the Sir Geofrey Jellico prize awarded by IFLA in 2022), Yttje Feddes, private practitioner and previously National Landscape Advisor to the Dutch Government and Jhon van Veelen, highly experienced landscape architect with strategic overview of Electricity transmission networks and design.
The anticipated outcomes of this event are:-
1. To set out the similarities and differences between the landscape professions response to meeting climate targets in the Netherlands and Scotland. What can we learn from each other?
2. To demonstrate, through the professional approach of Mark Turnbull, the power of collaboration, the value of landscape-led design solutions and sensitive management in landscape scale change decisions to reduce land use conflicts and to create more sustainable, multifunctional and equitable results in addressing the challenges that Scotland faces.
3. To consider Scotland’s international commitment to the European Landscape Convention in the context of post Brexit. Does this need a high level advisory role as in Holland such as an independent Chief Landscape Advisor to the Scottish Government and a statutory national plan and policy for Landscape, Land Use and Infrastructure.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
