Liza Sylvestre in conversation with Sarah Hayden and Lauren La Rose.
Join us for this online discussion chaired by Lauren La Rose, with artist Liza Sylvestre and curator Sarah Hayden, as together they reflect on Access as a form of creative practice and resistance.
Liza Sylvestre’s current exhibition in our City Dome Gallery, asweetsea, explores what it means to communicate. As an artist who is deaf, and whose child and partner are both hearing, Sylvestre seeks to locate where her disability lives within their family structure. Liza is a transdisciplinary artist and a Research Assistant Professor within the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Univerity of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, where she has co-founded the initiative Crip*––Cripistemology and the Arts (Crip*).
Dr Sarah Hayden is a writer and Associate Professor in Literature and Visual Culture at the University of Southampton, and curated asweetsea for John Hansard Gallery in 2022.
