Guid Crack: Oral Lore from the Countryside

About Guid Crack: Oral Lore from the Countryside

Edinburgh’s monthly storytelling club, held upstairs in the Waverley Bar, with the usual open-floor section for anyone to share a story, song or poem around the theme or otherwise. With guest storyteller James MacDonald Reid sharing tales of the countryside.

James is steeped in the Gaelic heritage of the Scottish Highlands, with family origins in Arisaig on the northwest coast. He recites tales he heard in his youth from older Gaels and he retains their manner of delivery so that he is passing them on just as he remembers them. His knowledge of the Highland culture as a whole is particularly acute and he enjoys conveying the context of the tales within that wonderful cultural matrix.

'a hugely accomplished teller of tales; quietly humorous and learnedly respectful of his craft.' (Colin Donald, The Scotsman)
