Full Moon Herb Walk & Tea Tasting

About Full Moon Herb Walk & Tea Tasting

Come and join Grass Roots Remedies Co-op for the first in a new series of herbal workshops offered on and around the 100 acre Lauriston Agroecology Farm in North West Edinburgh. The UK’s largest urban farm, nestled on a gentle hill overlooking the Firth of Forth and its islands, makes an amazing backdrop to these informative and inclusive events. No previous knowledge or experience required. Grass Roots Remedies Co-op has been running community herbal events in Edinburgh since 2015 and love to share our knowledge of the folk medicine and traditional uses of local plants.

For this first walk, we will take in the energy of the rising full moon while exploring what early summer plants are around towards the end of May. We will also find a beautiful spot to share a sensory tea tasting of a herb of the season.

What Will this Walk Cover?

The walk will last two hours and we will be influenced by the interests and questions of the participants, but we tend to broadly meander around the themes of:

botany, plant identification, folk stories, ecology and ecological partnerships, sustainable harvesting techniques and times, medicine making and tasting of samples, herbal actions and uses of the plants, herbal energetics and traditional western folk herbalism, mycology, connection with the morethanhuman world, connection with the land and ourselves, radical politics, radical ecology, birdsong, traditional crafts, great books.

(We can’t promise we will cover all of those topics in every walk..)

How Much Should I Pay?

This event is offered on a sliding scale – there is a Regular Price, a Subsidised Price and a Solidarity Price. The Subsidised places are limited to 3 tickets and are offered on a first come first serve basis.

Please pay a price that suits your personal circumstances, we don’t ask for or need any proof of your situation, and trust you to honour the system. We thank you for helping us to increase the accessibility of our workshops.

Who is this aimed at?  Who can come?

This event is aimed at adults, but we are happy for kids to come along too as long as they know to expect a slow pace and a lot of talking about plants!  If they are very bored and end up feeling the need to make a lot of noise or engage in creative play that is disruptive to the walk – we kindly ask you to guide them to a quieter spot, or redirect them.

Children & young people under 14 can come for free – please email us to say you will be bringing them along so we know to expect more people.  Anyone over 14 will need to book a ticket.

Our walk will be on uneven ground that is not wheelchair accessible and may be physically taxing if you have certain mobility issues. If you have a mobility issue and want to come then contact us and we can choose the most suitable routes and bring along a folding chair for rest stops.

We are sorry but you can’t bring your dog along. We have a lot of requests for people to bring dogs and while we appreciate their companionship, we just can’t predict how this will go down, and we really just want to focus on plants and not dogs/humans/other dog interactions.

What Next?
