A free, hands-on exhibition!
Here you will find a collection of wooden machines which demonstrate the fascinating and often bewildering motion of mechanisms. This is old-school technology : gears, cams, levers…those twisty bits… All working together to produce interesting and sometimes amusing effects. But of course nothing happens without the visitors helping out… by turning the handles!
You'll see:
Clocks, with visible mechanisms that illustrate old school mechanical timekeeping.
Drawing Machines, which produce elaborate patterns. Just turn the handle make your own and take it home!
Ball Runners that move wooden balls around in all sorts of crazy ways.
Automata, depicting the secret activities of our favourite hedgerow inhabitant, the Hedgehog.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
