In my Maker’s book: Celebrating Esther Inglis

About In my Maker’s book: Celebrating Esther Inglis

Esther Inglis was a creator of beautiful, often miniature manuscripts. Devoutly religious, she lived most of her life in Edinburgh, arriving as a bairn in 1574, and dying in Leith on 30 August 1624.

Her parents were French protestant refugees. This unique concert celebrates and commemorates Esther and her astonishing handiwork in music and images.

The centrepiece is the world-première of a brand-new composition by Sheena Phillips, 'Nine Haiku for Esther Inglis', setting poetry by Gerda Stevenson. There will also be French and Scottish music of the period, including psalms for audience participation, and projections of stunning images of Esther's manuscripts.
The eight voices of the Sacred Arts Festival Singers will be directed by Calum Robertson. 'Nine Haiku' will be performed by Sally Carr (soprano), Juliette Philogene (piano), and Calum Robertson (clarinet).
