Explore art, enjoy the outdoors beauty of West Lothian, and get inspired, with our series of artist-led walks. Professional doctorate visual artist, and avid walker, Lesley Logue, will lead three walks that aim to inspire you, encourage creative dialogue, and explore histories, sense of place and local ecologies. Join us on the following walks:
Sunday 7th June, 10:00 -11:30am (1h:30m)
Public Art in Howden and Dedridge (circular)
Explore the stories behind our local public artworks in West Lothian and get inspired!
This walk weaves together some of Livingstone's most intriguing public art. Come along to explore the stories behind the artworks and the artists, and get your creative juices flowing.
Meet us at the entrance of Reconnect Howden Park Centre. This is a slow and steady walk. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
Sunday 14th June, 10:00 -12:30am (2h:30m)
Nature & Art Walk in Almondvale (circular)
Collect natural materials and get creative in a walk through Almondvale Park and the surrounding countryside. During the walk we will document flora and fauna, record and experiement with the soundscape of the park, and create art using natural materials.
Meet us at Uphall Train Station, at the carpark on the side of the platform to Glasgow. Due to its duration, this walk it is not suitable for beginners. There will be a short break half way through, so bring a light lunch and bottle of water. Some of the terrain may be muddy so wear boots and dress for the weather.
Sunday 21st June, 10:00 -11:30am (1h:30m)
Sensory & Poetry Walk in Binny Craig (circular)
Take in the magnificent views of the Forth Valley and attune to your senses, in a walk at the wild side of West Lothian. The walk will take you through farmland all the way to Binny Craig a viewing point, historically used as a look out/beacon. Throughout the walk, the artist will prompt you to experience the landscape through your senses, and mindfully engage with the history of the place.
Did you know that stone from Binny quarry was used to construct the Scott Monument in Princes Street? How is the heritage of Sir Walter Scott still present in these hills?
The walk begins and ends at Oatridge Hotel on Uphall Main Street. Parts of this walk are quite steep, but are manageable at a steady pace. Some of the terrain may be muddy so wear boots and suitable clothing for the weather.
The event is open to participants over the age of 15.
