Meursault returns to Edinburgh for only the second time this year. Fresh from touring last year’s self titled long player, Neil Pennycook and his collaborators look to bring their unique sound and stage show to their hometown. As well as playing a combination of older and more recent material, they will offer a taste of what the future has in store for the ever evolving project, which after 15 years shows no sign of slowing down. With support from Phill Reynolds (Italy) and Viking Moses, this is a show not to missed!
Band/Artist Bio:
MEURSAULT- From scratchy, electronic beginnings to string laden torch songs and pounding alt rock, Meursault has defied categorisation from the moment the project was conceived in 2008. Despite this, the distinct voice of Neil Pennycook and the unique playing of his collaborators never seem to stray too far from what is always immediately recognisable as the ‘Meursault sound’. Critically acclaimed and a regular fixture on many an ‘end of year list’, Meursault is a live act not to be missed or soon forgotten.
PHILL REYNOLDS is an Italian singer-songwriter raised in the hills one hour north of Venice. With an early background in rock’n’roll, punk and hardcore, he brings evocative storytelling combined with arrangements steeped in Americana, all delivered in his rich, gravelly voice into shady living rooms and festival stages throughout Europe & the United States. Tales of love and rage, of despair and redemption accompany his peculiar finger-style technique, with sparks of guitar percussion, to deliver the listener a wide and deep range of emotions — a truly heartfelt live set.
VIKING MOSES, AKA Brendon Massei, achieves a special balance of warmth and command, with familiar melodies that draw listeners in and oblige them to stay. Strongly lyrical songs are played out through tunes that flirt with pop, soul and Americana, all strung together with a unique pulsing guitar, and by Massei's robust voice, which ebbs from delicate whispers to throaty howls. For 20 years and counting, Massei has won over fans and critics with the delicate melodies of his songs, and through his versatility as a performer.
