J.S. Bach's iconic Suites for Solo Cello hold a unique place in hearts of the public. Scottish cellist Hugh Mackay, a recent semi-finalist in the 2024 International Bach Competition in Leipzig, performs one of these works, the rich and exuberant 4th Suite in E-flat major, alongside two solo cello works: Britten's 1st Suite for Solo Cello, and Thomas Demenga's 2010 commission for the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann, 'EFEU'. St Michael's Parish Church provides a beautiful setting for this captivating blend of solo cello works to be heard.
Britten | Suite for Solo Cello No. 1
Demenga | EFEU (2010)
Bach | Suite for Solo Cello No. 4 in E-flat major, BWV 1010
**Note:** the programme has been amended. This concert will now finish c. 20:30 and will run 60 minutes without interval.
