How much can one King change a country? Find out on the From Burgh to Bank walking tour.
Join your guide from Museum on the Mound for a walking tour that tells the story of money in our capital city. When King David I brought the Royal Burgh system to Scotland in 1124 it was to change the landscape of Edinburgh forever, bringing new money, people, and prosperity to the land. Learn about the early merchants of the burgh, chart the changes that led to the foundation of Scotland’s first bank, Bank of Scotland in 1695, and discover some of the hidden stories waiting to be retold as part of the Edinburgh 900 celebrations.
The tour is an outdoor walking tour of Edinburgh’s Old Town and lasts approx. 1.5 hours. There will be steps and uneven surfaces-please contact us in advance if you would like to attend but have mobility issues and we will make as many adjustments as possible.
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
