AdvoCard 1994 to 2024 – Celebrating 30 years of providing independent advocacy to people in Edinburgh
A celebration and reflection on the work of AdvoCard from its founding as a grassroots organisation in 1994, through to the legislation of the Mental Health Act (2003) that made advocacy a legal right, the development of independent advocacy in the third sector, its impact and challenges over the last three decades.
Come and find out more about the history, the people working and volunteering in independent advocacy and where it is today. The exhibition illustrates the history and contribution made by AdvoCard to independent advocacy in Edinburgh, highlighting the work of staff and volunteers in words and photographs to celebrate a milestone of 30 years positively impacting adults and children living with mental health conditions.
AdvoCard works with individuals living with a mental health condition, people with problematic substance use, people who are in prison in Edinburgh, and people experiencing impact of welfare reform. At our core is to ensure that independent advocacy supports a person’s right to have their own voice heard in decisions made about their health and well-being. During the exhibition there will be staff and volunteers to speak with and information on the services we provide.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
