My Body, Whose Choice? Exploring Women’s Bodily Autonomy and Safety through Art
Exciting new art exhibition from Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios artists HelloArt
We invite artists from all disciplines to participate in a thought-provoking exhibition in Edinburgh, that explores the urgent and complex issues surrounding women’s safety, bodily autonomy, and the pervasive objectification of women.Recent global events, including the South Korean deepfake scandal, the rape and murder of a female doctor in India, and the exposure of unethical surrogacy practices in China, have reignited critical conversations about the state of women’s rights and safety.
These incidents prompt us to ask: Do women truly have control over their own bodies? How can we ensure women’s safety in a world that continually objectifies and sexualises them? Through this exhibition, we seek to create a space for artists to reflect on these questions and explore the deeper implications of feminist struggles in today’s world. We encourage submissions that address themes of bodily autonomy, the effects of objectification and sexualisation, and the personal or societal consequences of these realities.
Exhibition dates and times:
Monday 11th November | 12noon – 5pm
Tuesday 12th – Friday 15th November | 10am – 5pm
Saturday 16th November | 10am – 12noon
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
