All three live, think and compose original poetry in English, French and Scots.
Through a combination of readings and conversation, we will explore how language-switching can, like poetry itself, establish a creative zone in which to build alternative identities, open new worlds and enable positive encounters with perspectives that differ from our own. Along the way, we will question some assumptions, such as the notion of different languages as a barrier to understanding, and the idea that poetry is often ‘too complicated’.
The conversation will be chaired by Lorna Milne, Professor Emerita of French at the University of St Andrews and President of the Franco-Scottish Society of Scotland.
This event is organized as part of Languages Week Scotland.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
