Over the last few centuries, many authors have been inspired to pick up their pen to write about the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the treasures contained within its walls. These sessions will explore the objects and spaces behind these literary works before diving into a hearty discussion over a cup of tea or coffee. Please note, texts are not included in the ticket price, and should be purchased to read beforehand.
March - The Italian Secretary, Caleb Carr
In this further adventures of Holmes and Watson, the duo are summoned to Victorian Holyroodhouse to delve into sinister and supernatural goings-on. Explore the fictional mystery before seeing the rooms that fascinated Victorian tourists.
June - The Wandering Years 1922-39, Cecil Beaton
Renowned photographer Cecil Beaton was an avid diarist and published six edited volumes during his lifetime. In this meeting explore his early career and first encounters with The Royal Family, and visit The King's Gallery, Edinburgh to see some of his photographs in the exhibition Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography.
