In this workshop, we will examine our personal and collective relationships with the Earth and explore our emotions around the Earth’s changing climate through a guided stream-of-consciousness writing exercise and follow-up group discussion.
After our writing and discussion, we will reflect as a group on ways to stay mentally well and to support each other while navigating facing the realities of the climate crisis. We will spend some time ‘croft bathing,’ directing our attention to how we feel while outdoors in a natural setting and how the Earth can support our collective wellbeing through trying times.
Environmental educator Sara will facilitate the workshop, which she has led previously at events such as Portobello Sea Rising Festival and the Edinburgh Climate Festival. Previous workshops have provoked often emotional responses to climate change which can inspire us to take climate action and build community.
We hope the session will equip you with ideas to choose lower-impact ways of living and the confidence to share your learnings with others.
Please bring a notebook and writing utensil if you have one (if not, we have extras!). Come with an open mind and be ready to participate in a discussion on climate, values, and behaviours.
The Populus Cafe will be open on the day of the workshop, and attending the event will entitle you to a 20% discount on cafe purchases.
About Sara: Hi, I’m Sara(she/her). In my workshops, I hope to encourage climate action by contemplating our entangled nature with the earth, sharing our diverse perspectives, and questioning our value systems, which I believe are essential parts of navigating the current changes we are facing together on our planet. I have trained in yoga and alternative learning practices and hold an MSc in Outdoor Education from the University of Edinburgh. The inspiration for my workshops comes from Dr. Robbie Nicol’s course, Outdoor Environmental Education: Concept-Based Practice, and I have had the privilege of facilitating at LungA Festival in Iceland, Edinburgh Climate Festival, and Portobello Sea Rising Festival.
This workshop programme is possible with support from the Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN), Greenlight fund. In addition to vital welcome support from funders, our work also relies on your own generosity to ensure we can provide further workshops in the future. We provide a sliding scale of ticket prices so if you can pay a bit more please consider doing so. Please select 'read more' on each ticket type to learn more about our ticket price sliding scale.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
