Remode collective has created this workshop to showcase the power of Craftivism, which mixes activism and crafting. Using embroidery stitches to raise awareness of environmental, feminist, social or political issues through decorative textile techniques. This class will inspire thought-provoking artworks that merge slogans and compelling imagery into a textile patch.
This workshop will teach you the basic sewing skills needed to create an inspiring and empowering protest badge to decorate/mend/ personalise your clothing.
Use embroidery and textiles as a unique and personal voice inspired by a topic of your choice. The patch can engage with current social/ political issues whilst also adding decoration to your clothing. Why not add the patch to your clothes to cover holes, add strength to areas or add colour and pattern?
• Create a design with background and text.
• Learn how to make hand-stitched patches using repurposed materials.
• Learn basic decorative embroidery techniques.
• Prepare and apply Applique and Reverse applique techniques.
The smaller workshop size ensures valuable one-to-one teacher and participant time, allowing maximum engagement and assistance.
This is a sociable event that will be held at Populus cafe on Leith Community Croft where refreshments can be bought (until 4pm) whilst you embroider!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
