About Catalan Film Festival: Los Destellos + Q&A

Los Destellos / Glimmers + Q&A with director Pilar Palomero

The introduction and Q and A will be BSL interpreted. This transcribes both dialogue and key sounds from the film, such as [whistle blowing] or [crowd cheering].

Isabel’s life takes an unexpected turn the day her daughter Madalen asks her to pay regular visits to Ramón, her ex-husband, who is ill. After fifteen years apart, and even though they were family for years, Isabel sees him as a stranger and begins to rekindle resentments she thought she had overcome. Nevertheless, accompanying Ramón at his most vulnerable time will allow Isabel to see their failure with different eyes and focus on the present in her own life.

Director Bio

Pilar Palomero, director and screenwriter, is the latest revelation in Spanish cinema. Her debut feature Schoolgirls was the big winner at the 2021 Goya Awards, obtaining ninne nominations and winning the categories of Best Film, Best New Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. With her second feature film, La maternal, she received three Goya Award nominations in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress.

About Glimmers, Pilar Palomero says: “From the first moment I was intrigued by this story which, broadly speaking, talked about the forced reunion between a couple that didn’t work out. I felt that this conflict allowed me to talk about how contradictory and complex the bonds we create can be, and above all, to propose a reflection about the marks we leave and the marks left on us, that make us who we are.”
