This exhibition brings together two artists that specialise in handmade objects that reveal a sense of considered quietude in the process of making.

Jo Walker:
Jo Walker lives in Fife producing work from her studio just outside Dunfermline. She originally studied jewellery design at Edinburgh College of Art but later she discovered clay and fell in love with the possibilities it offered.

Most of her work is thrown on the potter’s wheel, where she enjoys the feel of the clay running through her fingers, the rhythm and the quiet contemplation. She also hand builds larger pieces by coiling and slip casts some of the smaller pieces.

Walker decorates each piece using the technique of sgraffito. A technique of scratching through a partially dry contrasting coloured  coating of slip to reveal the white clay body underneath. She also experiments with the juxtaposition of glazed and unglazed clay surfaces which give interest not only in the look of a piece but also how it feels.

Jillian Lee Adamson:
Jillian Lee Adamson is an interdisciplinary artist living in East Lothian. She attended several high schools in the USA where she specialised in Media Art studies. During her final two years of high school, she was accepted as a post-secondary student to study foundational courses at Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

As a neurodivergent, Jillian’s work is a distillation of the experiences she has gained in her life so far. Through the rhythmic and tactile process of slow stitching, she uses a needle and thread to create intricate and symbolic representations which represent a testament to her resilience, adaptability, strength and tenacity.

Jillian graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art in 2024.
