Trace the footsteps and hear the stories of female scientists, artists and activists of the last 1000 years who changed Scotland and the world. You'll learn about Mary Somerville, the 18th-century "Queen of Science", Elizabeth Whiskeman, an Edinburgh University academic and anti nazi spy, and the Edinburgh Seven, the first female undergraduate medical students at any British University.
This tour is an essential part of understanding Scotland’s role in world history. It puts women into a central role in Edinburgh and reveals fascinating stories nobody else tells about the city.
This tour takes place in the old town of Edinburgh with some steep hills and 10-15 stairs. In case of mobility issues please let the guide know so that alternative directions can be taken. The tour is a free tour / Pay What You Think It’s Worth because we believe that high quality walking tours should be accessible for everyone regardless where you’re from. The guide accepts payment based on your experience in cash and card.
