Tummy Monster is a surreal, darkly comic psychological thriller from Scottish writer-director Ciaran Lyons, produced by acclaimed production company Forest of Black (Schemes, Guilt, The Hermit of Treig). The film had its world premiere at Glasgow Film Festival 2024, where it quickly gained a cult following and sold-out screenings.

The story follows Danny, a narcissistic Scottish tattoo artist who discovers that a globally famous popstar has mysteriously appeared at his flat. Driven by ego and a hunger for online fame, Danny becomes fixated on getting a selfie with the celebrity — but when she refuses, the encounter spirals into a bizarre, slow-burning psychological war. What starts as a social media obsession turns into a pitch-black comedy of control, identity, and delusion.

Shot entirely in one location, Tummy Monster delivers claustrophobic intensity, sharp social satire, and a growing sense of dread. Think Uncut Gems meets Beau Is Afraid by way of Glasgow — a tense two-hander that’s as visually inventive as it is thematically unsettling.

Described by audiences as “unhinged,” “a fever dream,” and “a twisted joyride,” the film has since screened at festivals including Austin Film Festival, Leiden International Film Festival, and Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.
With standout performances, bold visual style, and a singular tone, Tummy Monster marks an exciting new voice in UK indie cinema — fiercely independent, unexpected, and unforgettable.
